Early morning in Provincetown is the perfect time to head out toward Hatches Harbor near Provincetown and catch the first light over the dunes. It's a place that feels a little surreal especially on a foggy day. Everything looks the same until it doesn’t and suddenly becomes something different.

Causeway trail through Hatches Harbor
Further out, the causeway was badly eroded and completely flooded. We took our shoes off and rolled up our pants, walking barefoot through the cold water and sand to keep going. Once we crossed, it was hard to see which way the trail goes because of constant change from the tide. The fog began to shift and we could see the lighthouse ahead in the distance.
Not far from there we reached Race Point Light, completely shrouded in fog. It's one of my favorite places in Provincetown and has always felt like a magical land.
Walking back along the causeway, the sky started to brighten and the lighthouse could be seen the whole way back. A completely new landscape from the earlier morning.
